wisconsin carry must not be concealed, I fully understand that.
what about wearing openly but where it won't be noticed, example:
wearing shorts and an ankle holster. it is not concealed, it is holstered and it is in the open. It does seem like this would be more likely to go unnoticed.
how often do you look at some bodys shoes or ankle?
it's my understanding that the law does not designate where the gun must be holstered.
thoughts??? |

If it is on your ankle it is inside your sock correct? I don't know much about ankle carrying so the only thing I could think of is that if it is inside the sock it would still be concealed even though you have shorts on and it is somewhat exposed. |

I may be wrong....but the ankle holsters I have seen, sit above the ankle technically, and so wouldn't technically be concealed by a sock neccesarily, unless of course the sock is pulled way up and over it. From the pictures I have seen, they appear to be above the ankle, but just below the shin, or right at the shin. I could be wrong....anyone own an ankle holster who can verify? |

While I understand your idea and am familiar with ankle holsters (I'll get to that in a minute), I think this may not work too well. With an ankle holster, it is necessary to keep retention. Now defeating the retention device on one foot or while bent over generally is fairly difficult. This would lengthen the amount of time required to draw the firearm and could possibly land you at the proverbial gates and saying hi to St. Peter. Another issue is that with those type of rigs that are not secured to the belt, it becomes MUCH easier for someone else to snag the gun away from you while keeping you unaware that anything is happening. I'm not trying to be mean, and I do appreciate your idea.
Massad Ayoob talks about a concept I actually am beginning to practice. I don't remember what he calls it, but I call it passively camouflaging. Say I have a black XD (which I do, as you all know, making this simulation easier). I strap on my duty belt with the black XD in a black holster wearing a bright red shirt, attention is IMMEDIATELY drawn to the black firearm. Oops, Frannie over there freaks out and screams "We're being robbed!" I strap on my black XD in a black holster while wearing a BLACK shirt, Frannie never sees the gun. No attention is directed towards the gun, and no freakouts occur. Try it in a mirror at home. I dare all of you. |

I am liking your idea. Also beyond the black clothing, black holster, and black XD, try wearing your holster in SOB, or at least at 4:30 TO 5:00. Getting the gun off you side my also help.... |

I agree with both. Blending gun with clothing as well as the 4:30 position unless they are in the right positon your pistol can almost go unnoticed by some. I just switched from a black and stainless pistol to an all black model and find I am noticed less now that I am no longer carrying a bright flashy gun. |

I began carrying at 3:00, I swithed to 1:30. I feel more secure, quicker draw and better retention ebility. I defintley get more attention at 1:30.
I would never carry past 3:00. |

I carry at all hours... ; )
Usually my holster is at 2:00 erso. Seems to get around the curves
better that way, & I'm not worried about someone snatching it from
behind.
