I think that pretty much says it all.

I live in unincororated Addison & I am disappointed but not suprised. Mayor Hartwig & his bunch are very arrogant, believing that they know what's best for all and should make decisions for them. Unfortunately living in an unincorporated area leaves me unable to vote against them.
There are no strip clubs, only massage parlors & they have found a way to stay dispite the mayors continuos attempts to get them out.

yeah but a porn shop, a bar and strip clubs don't have weapons that can kill alot of people. Just taking the mindset of the anti's. A porn shop cannot shoot from the hip and kill lots of people. LOL

Well I don't have a problem with Addison doing what they are doing. If they want to ban gun sales fine, there are other towns that will allow gun sales. It's unfortunate that they blame gun stores for violence and think that they are protecting the citizens, but what ever. There are other towns.

I got a question, isn't he just banning the stores from selling guns? I don't think the town is banning people from having guns, just stores from selling them. I don't think it is a big deal. I do wonder what the people of the town think.

RW, two problems I have with this mayor; he is restraining free trade, and he has zero understanding of the 2nd Amendment. I would guess he is a tax and spend liberal who knows what's best for all of us.

He may be but one thing I think needs to be validated is if the ban is only on FFL dealers or on gun owners. There is a difference. In Washington DC, there is a ban on FFL dealers and also gun ownership.

But if this mayor only putting restrictions on gun owners within his city as well, then that is a serious problem.

Granted, I don't like his ban myself, but a gun owner from Addison can goto another town at another gun store to buy his firearms. Yes if we take this case to extreme it is a problem because then you are banning firearm selling country wide or state wide. But this situation is only one town and if the people don't like it then I say let's respect their wishes.

As long as it doesn't affect the rest of the gun owners within county and state.

Chicago is different because you are banning certain types of firearms and gun stores from the city. I also feel we have bigger fish to fry than what is going on in Addison. Like the upcoming county wide and/or state wide "assault weapons" ban. Which can be expanded to other rifles, pistols and ammunition.

The problem is that it affects UNincorporated areas as well, and the people there are being governed entirely without accountable representation. I live in an unincorporated area of my county here in Texas (it's quite urban, but just outside the city limits), and I don't get to vote for mayor here either, but they also don't get to pass laws that affect me two blocks north of the city provided I stay in the unincorporated area.

It's very "let's you and him fight", only you don't even get a vote. They get all of the laws and probably none of the services. Talk about disenfranchised!

My experience tells me that most likely when this group was elected, their opinions and feelings regarding guns were NEVER the part of any campaign. Seems like for most town and county elections. feelings about guns and gun ownership is rarely ever mentioned in any campaign. It's only after these people get elected and when they have the power to replace your "mommy and daddy" does this type of thing come to the surface. Especially here in Illanoy, most gun owners are so silent, fear raising the issue to a candidate to avoid opening the pandora's box . Let's face it, the anti's are more vocal, get more "free" press time. This is NOT a fair and balanced playing feel. Anti's use distortions and lies, over time it's the key phrases. Remember they are not out to ban a class or group of civilian firearms, they want to ban ""assault weapons"". Negative images (military using to kill) so any firearm that the military uses certainly has no place in civilian ownership. Little people with little minds.

That is pretty true. I know for me as a gun owner. I am pretty silent about my guns. I have only recently been more vocal to my friends about them. I did take the time to educate one of my wife's friends about guns, especially when we started talking about the tank Johnson incident.

I did tell her I have firearms, and "assault weapons" and told her that tank doesn't represent the gun owning community. Many gun owners are professionals in handling about firearms.

I think she understood but I think she respects me and my position but her attitude about guns is probably the same. But it felt weird because normally in the past I would have just sat there and let them talk.

But I think many gun owners, and even more with gun owners who own "assault weapons" are silent because of the constant fear of gun laws being changed where they will have to turn in their weapons, so many just stay silent and private. You don't want people knowing what you have because of the fear the police will come to your door asking for your weapons.

I think the same fear for me is prevalent with going on TV about guns. I would love to go on TV and talk about the different guns, even being interviewed by a reporter, showing my professionalism but I am always afraid that someone at work will see my picture and start being afraid because I'm armed. Thus I am pretty silent, except on these blogs.

So that is one thing the anti's use against gun owners is our silence against us. They are the masters of looking like victims and making you look like an oppressor. To reporters, that is what sells news coverage.
