It's my understanding that there is a safety course available somewhere in Illinois that once taken, allows you to apply for a CCW from Florida.
Anyone know if this is trua and if so, where can I take the course?
Thanks in advance for you help!!!!!!! |

Florida accepts many different items as "proof of training". In general, any NRA class (First Steps, Basic Pistol, Personal Protection etc) qualifies; I believe that a hunter safety course conducted by a State agency or State approved agency is also accepted; proof of military (DD214) service works also.
The classes I do at GAT in Dundee (next one is in January, 2007) also qualify for Florida (as well as Utah).
Go to the Florida Dept of Agriculture (odd, but they are the issuing agency) and make the request for the application packet. Everything you need to apply is in the packet.

Should make every gun owner in Illannoy sick over how relatively simple it is to get a CCW license from another state in comparison to how firearms owners are treated in Illannoy. Crook County now with its AWB, attacking the object is so much simpler than addressing the cause. Thank God we have government to help protect us simpletons ! About 3 weeks since wife and I sent our CCW application to Utah (thanks to phorvik and his excellent course). Counting the days.................... |

Just as an FYI, Cook County has had a so-called AWB for some time now. This past referendum was to prompt the state to follow suit. The Cook County board did expand the AWB definition about a week after the election however. |

My Dad lives in Texas. He took basically a gun competency course, applied and now has a CCW. It is amazing how once TX input the CCW the Crime rate Dropped like a Rock! You still had Stupid Stuff, but person on person crime is almost non-existance! |

Bob,
Can you elaborate on when Cook County first passed the AWB you mentioned. I am legal now (as of last week) but if there was a prior AWB, I and many others were probably unknowingly in violation. |

Hi Blacksmith58,
I live in Texas and have my license; I carried in Florida too when I lived there, so I've been through both courses.
I wish I could say that you are correct about the crime rate in Texas, but there really hasn't been too much of an effect. Crime is generally down, especially when you consider how much our population has grown since 1994, but I would not characterize it as dropping like a rock. You can look at the annual crime reports here if you wish: http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/director%5Fstaff/public%5Finformation/reports.htm
But that is not the point of concealed carry. The point is that I will be able to protect me and mine. As for the sheep, there will never be anything we can do to ensure their complete safety. If they will not take that role on for themselves, they have doomed themselves to the role of the prey. |

Marochka_Raduga: I stand corrected. I was passing on information I had received from friends and relative in Texas. From what I gathered from their conversations, The GoldenTriangle area person on person crime is down.
I agree with your statement, "The point is that I will be able to protect me and mine. As for the sheep, there will never be anything we can do to ensure their complete safety. If they will not take that role on for themselves, they have doomed themselves to the role of the prey."
I for one, refuse to be prey. If I had to give back my guns, I'll start with the bullets! |
