RW,
I think you should write up a nice little press release about this. Press releases are a wonderful source of free publicity and who knows, maybe they'll come do a story on the group when you get it going. They may turn the story down but you never know until you try!!
I recommend you send it to:
Afrique6167 N. Broadway Suite 200 Chicago, IL 60660
Chatham Citizen 412 East 87th Street Chicago, IL 60619
Chicago Crusader 6429 S Martin Luther Drive Chicago, IL 60637
Chicago Defender 2400 S. Michigan Ave. Chicago, IL 60616
Chicago Independent Bulletin 2037 West 95th Street Chicago, IL 60643
Chicago South Shore Scene 7426 South Constance Chicago, IL 60649
Chicago Standard News 615 South Halsted Chicago, IL 60411
Chicago Weekend 412 East 87th Street Chicago, IL 60619

I don't live in Illinois but I would be willing to contribute in some way. I would love to say that I would contribute in "any way" but I have to be realistic about my limitations. However, given enough notice, I might be willing to provide some of my hardware if your group is willing to travel into Indiana for a day shoot at one of the DNR ranges (Willow Slough or Jasper-Pulaski).
Everyday I become more leery of traveling into Illinois (particularly through Cook County) with my firearms just to go to a range or match. The DNR ranges in Indiana are free of charge but happen to be quite a driving distance (hence the "day shoot" requirement). I would be even more willing to put some miles on my guns if I knew that the majority of attendees were new, first-time shooters. Let me know, we can talk.
The ONLY way we will effect change in Illinois is by replicating ourselves. Picking up that firearm and spending a day at the range shooting it will do more to demolish the gun control myth that guns are intrinsically evil than any lecture, speech or blog post. We MUST create more new shooters ... step two will be getting these new shooters politically active.
My two cents about the race thing ... forget race and get the ladies involved in shooting. "The hand that rocks the cradle, rules the world." The ladies are where we will win (or lose) this battle. |

I think this is a grand idea. If you need numbers to get this off the ground, I will happily join your club, even though I try not to travel in that neck of the woods. I will send my $75 after the first, when my next check comes. the address is....?
Women are a grand Idea. Keep a count on the sex and race of each member, and use those numbers when dealling with the media. You know "The 10th Cavalry Gun Club in chicago represents over 5000 members of African descent and over 2000 women." numbers like that will turn some heads (when you get there!) both in the media and in the politics. I hope you get enough chicago members to get that dailey out of town on a rail (if he doesn't go to jail first!).
Best of luck,
The Guy |

So far we have 8 people in state that have shown interest. I got the post office box setup. The PO box is 603 Streamwood, Illinois 60107-0603.
I still have to ge everyones emails and phone numbers. Many of the people that have shown interest have just given their username on icarry, some have called my house so I do have their numbers and names. But yes we can start looking at ideas.
I'll email the presidents of the NJ and NY chapters as well as Ken Blanchard so we can offically get started with a chapter in Illinois.
For those that have expressed interest, and haven't done so. Please send me your name, email and a contact phone number, so I can get a list togther.
One thing that we can plan on is a date and time for us to get together and shoot. That could be our first task. |

I would be interested as well. I have a few black friends who are into shooting. They are both down in Southern Illinois. And both of them are from Chicago. One is going to medical school in a year or two depending on his grades. The other is going to be some sort of computer whizkid.
I will ask them and see if they would be interested. |

Yeah, let's go shooting! Nobody laugh TOO much at me though. My eyes are bad right now, side effect of my anti-rejection drugs. It will get better(in five or six months!!!) but untill then, I just waste ammo in the genneral vicinity of my targets! LOL
Anyway, I'm up for it. See some of you in Urbana on the 22nd (i hope) at Ned Kellys.
Go team!

Accuracy is all in the sight alignment and gentle, slow, even trigger press and surprise trigger break
Don't worry about your eyesight, bud. Bring the gun up, and then just worry about your front sight. If you can see your front sight clearly and press the trigger correctly without flinching, anticipating, etc, you are set for bullseye! |

Ok I got ten people, but now I need phone numbers and emails. So if you have expressed interested please PM me with an email and phone number.
Now that I have at least ten people, and possibly more interested. I'm going to email Ken and the current tenth calvary president and get a chapter going here in Illinois.
I'll keep you posted on my progress. |
