Why don't guns come with cleaning instructions? Of all the new guns I've ever bought, none have ever come with any instructions on how to clean or lube the weapon. I'm talking about 5 different guns from 5 different manufacturers.

Is there a reason for this? Just about everything else you buy comes with instructions on how to maintain it. What gives?

The only reason I know how to disassemble and clean an AR15 is because my brother was in the Army and showed me how to do it.

I have wondered that myself. These days i just hit up YouTube for disassembly instructions if I have never disassembled a specific weapon. Once it's apart I follow the simple rule...Oil every where things rub.

Every new firearm I have ever purchased has come with an owners' manual including AR15 style rifles. They detail tear down, cleaning and lube. Remington, Ruger, Winchester, Browning, Armalite, Bushmaster, Rock River, etc
If yours did not come with one, you can download it from their web site.

Like fepowered, every new gun I've ever purchased has come with a manual that included basic field stripping instructions. Many also included an exploded view and parts list. But, that said, I can't recall any that actually included instructions on lubrication or cleaning.

I believe that both of my Glocks, my ruger, and my DPMS AR-15 all came with takedown, cleaning, and lubricating instructions. They might not specifically say, "use a bronze brush here and there," but they do say things like, "clean this and that well," and, "lubricate these parts lightly, and those parts generously."

Solyentgreen, could you specify which manufacturers? Were they bought new or used?

Hope this helps!
