thebaron writes: Why do Illinois legislators ignore legal gun owners? We are not sure but a conversation we had with a downstate “conservative” representative may give an insight. We talked with this representative personally about issues from citizens’ gun rights to punitive taxation. Our interviewee seemed informed and sympathetic to our concerns. He further stated that he opposed legislation increasing taxes and restriction of gun rights. We have even gone shooting with this representative so we know he is not just giving us lip service. However, when pressed about what he would do beyond just voting “no” on these restrictions he said “What can I do?” We pointed out ARTICLE 1 of the Illinois constitution, SECTION 22. RIGHT TO ARMS
Subject only to the police power, the right of the individual citizen to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

Why you need an assault weapon and a high capacity magazine. |
|
thebaron writes: I’m sure many of you reading this are familiar with the Second Amendment but are you aware of all the subsequent language and precedent associated with this historic preservation of freedom. Amendment II states; “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” Most people mistakenly assume that only the second part refers to citizens and the first part refers to the military. This is false. According to the Federal Code, the unorganized militia consists of all males between the ages of 17 and 45, or 65 if they have prior military service. |

''Da Mayor'' making his people suffer for him!!!! |
|
From Clout On Wheels: Top City Hall lawyer once again in eye of the storm
She sits at Mayor Daley's elbow on the rostrum at City Council meetings and stares up at him as he speaks. When scandal hits, she's the one who's trotted out to control the political damage.
For seven years, Corporation Counsel Mara Georges has been on the City Hall hot seat on issues ranging from the E2 nightclub disaster, the Lincoln Park porch collapse and the midnight destruction of Meigs Field to the hiring of teenage building inspectors and Daley's ongoing effort to overturn the Shakman decree against political hiring.
Now Georges, 42, is sitting on the hottest seat of all. She was called to federal court to testify about conversations with Daley's indicted patronage chief, Robert Sorich, in 2005 after the FBI raided the Mayor's Office of Intergovernmental Affairs.
On Wednesday, aldermen were buzzing about Georges' claim she didn't know City Hall's worst-kept secret: that the IGA was involved in hiring -- even for jobs supposed to be protected by the Shakman ban.
The see-no-evil claim was not new for Georges. |

High measurements for authority of Chicago Aldermen |
|
From Austin Weekly News: Is your alderman packing heat?
None in Austin are known to, but others in the city are proud gun owners
Many — perhaps most — Chicago aldermen have chosen not to exercise their statutory right to carry a weapon.
Most, that is, except the fiery, hat-wearing alderman from the Third Ward.
Dorothy Tillman startled those present at a Police and Fire Committee meeting of the Chicago City Council several years ago, an aldermanic aide recalled, when the issue of aldermen owning guns was broached.
"I carry a gun," she announced, pulling a pistol out of her purse.
A survey of all 50 aldermen had one aldermanic aide — not from Tillman’s office — say, "You should talk to Tillman. Tillman is your girl." |

(Toledo, Ohio) The Toledo Blade has never been funny! |
|
I know this has nothing to do with Illinois. However, it is the point behind it that counts. We can all take a joke. I know every gun owner has a sense of humor.
However, when the Toledo Blade will print things like this comic they
printed in Today's Paper. (
Kirk - Concealed-carry Click here to take a look ) I don't
find it funny.
Yes, they will always think
of us as Rednecks and back of the woods Hill-Billy's. However, what they don't
realize is that some of us have PHD's or Bachelors degrees. That gun owners are
a very intelligent group that normally out smart them on a daily basis.
I understand that not everyone
like guns and not everyone feels the need to carry one. But for those of us that
do carry a firearm we have our own personal reasons. It could be because of the
work we do or the neighborhood we live in. I know it is easy enough to
have one of the ANTI-GUNNERS to say why don't you just move or change jobs?
Sometimes it is just not that simple. Myself I work part time Delivering Pizza
and in Private Law Enforcement. Now in my line of work its not so easy to go
unarmed. I personally have had a revolver put to my head and had money demanded
from me. That was not fun for me.

"Obergeist" showcases Brady's idea |
|
(To the read the story as posted in the Chicago Tribune.....
After taking the time out to read this story I am just not
sure that Oberweis is honest in what he says as far as it goes with repealing
the FOID. Although, it does make a lot of sense. Oberweis was not the first to
say he would do it.
Bill Brady was the first to call for it!
I am not saying that I wouldn't trust Mr. Oberweis with our
Second Amendment rights. Rather, my question is only this, Is he just showcasing
or is he for real? I would love for someone from his camp to answer this
question if they would. better yet let him answer it.
By Ofelia Casillas and James
Kimberly, Tribune staff reporters. Tribune staff
reporters Liam Ford and Rick Pearson contributed to this
report
Published March 6, 2006
Republican
governor candidate Jim Oberweis sought to bolster
his 2nd Amendment credentials on Sunday, telling
visitors to a gun shop near Rockford that he would
explore a repeal of the state's firearm owner's
identification card law.
Another candidate, state Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka,
received the endorsement of former Atty. Gen. Jim
Ryan, the state's unsuccessful 2002 GOP contender
for governor. Ryan's backing prompted sharp
criticism of Topinka by rival Ron Gidwitz's
campaign.

Gun makers say they'll leave state if weapons ban OK'd |
|
This does make sense to me seeing
where it all started. Now it seems that Mayor
Daley and Gov Hot Rod will be possibly costing
Illinois about 500 jobs if this happens. Now
isn't that just smart? That's it you 2 cost us
all more loss of work so we can blame you even
more than we do now! The people of Illinois need
jobs and that is a fact! Lack of common sense in
the Mayors office and the Governors office seems
to be of the norm these days between these 2
fools. What do all of you think?? Good Job Mayor
Dick and Gov Hot Rod! The people of Illinois
want to thank you for possibly putting 500 more
people closer to being out of work and one step
closer to the poor house!

Gun makers say they'll
leave state if weapons ban OK'd
By Kurt Erickson
kurt.erickson@lee.net
SPRINGFIELD - Several Illinois gun manufacturers
said Wednesday they will pack up and leave
Illinois if state lawmakers approve a ban on
assault weapons.
The threats came as a House panel approved
legislation to ban the weapons, even though the
proposal's prospects appear bleak in the Senate
following comments earlier this week by Senate
President Emil Jones, D-Chicago.
In a press conference before the House Executive
Committee's 9-3 vote in favor the ban, the gun
makers said they would pull up stakes and take
750 jobs with them if the ban is OK'd.
